Trevor Bayliss has been officially announced as the head coach of the Punjab team for the Indian T20 League 2023. Recently, reports surfaced that the Mohali-based team is looking to replace Anil Kumble, who worked as the head coach of the team from 2020 to 2022. Now, the franchise has made it official that the former England head coach will be heading the coaching staff in the 16th season of the cash-rich league.

The 2019 World Cup-winning coach has coached the Kolkata and Hyderabad teams previously. He was also part of the 2012 and 2014 winning teams in the Indian T20 League. Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the 2014 finalists, they said that Bayliss brings the experience of winning the 2019 ODI World Cup, two Indian T20 League, and a BBL title.

“Punjab Kings today announced the appointment of Trevor Bayliss as the new head coach of Punjab Kings for the next season of the ITL. Bayliss brings his experience of winning the 2019 World Cup with England, 2 ITL titles and a BBL title with the Sydney Sixers,” the Punjab franchise said in their statement.

On the other hand, the veteran coach has said that he is honored to work with the Red Army. He added that the team has a foundation with an appetite for success. The 59-year-old further added that he is looking forward to working with the team.

“I’m honoured to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware,” he said.

On the other hand, the team is yet to decide the fate of Mayank Agarwal as captain. It was reported that he might be replaced as captain. However, the franchise refuted the reports with a statement on Twitter. It will be interesting to see if the right-hander manages to remain captain or not.
