India has seen some of the best tennis stars. And most of them have been women who made India proud in the international arena. Sania Mirza, Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina, and Karman Kaur Thandi are some of the players from this era who have made India proud.

1) Sania Mirza:
Sania Mirza has won six major titles. Three of them have come in women’s doubles and three of them have come in mixed doubles. She was named in Time’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2016.
Sania Mirza is India’s pride and an idol for many aspiring tennis players in India. Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis duo won the 2015 Wimbledon women’s doubles event. It remains to be one of her greatest achievements for India.
2) Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina:
Ankita Ravinderkrishan Raina ranks among two of the top five best tennis players in India. She is number one in women’s singles at present. A strong baseliner who believes in her strength, Ankita Raina’s forte is grass court.
The 29-year-old budding tennis star is an asset for Indian tennis and its future. No surprises here if she wins all major Grand Slams within three to four years.
3) Karman Kaur Thandi:
The 24-year-old tennis star from Delhi is all set to take on the big stages. She is one of the best young tennis stars in India alongside Ankita Raina. She reached Australia Open junior quarter-finals in 2016.
In the same year, Karman Kaur Thandi managed to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open Junior. She was the first runner-up in the 2015 US Open Junior and 2nd Runner in the 2016 Wimbledon Junior. Her career-best ranking of 196 came in the year 2018, August.
4) Rushmi Chakravarthi:
Rushmi Chakravarthi, the 44-year-old tennis player from India, is one of the best to have represented the country. She won a record 52 ITF titles for India, the most by any tennis player.
Rushmi Chakravarthi won the bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi. Chakravarthi and Mirza were allowed a wildcard entry in the 2012 London Olympics. But the duo were beaten. She still remains one of the best for India.
5) Nirupama Sanjeev:
Nirupama Sanjeev is a former tennis player from Coimbatore, India. She retired from the sport in the year 2010 after ruling the tennis world alongside Rushmi Chakravarthi.
Nirupama Sanjeev was the first runner-up in the 1998 and 2001 Australian Open. She was the 2nd runner up in 2001 Wimbledon and 1st runner up in the French Open in 2001. The Coimbatore-based tennis star has won 2 ITF titles in a single event.
