The 1000th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) turned out to be a thriller as Mumbai Indians (MI)  secured a six-wicket victory in a last-over thriller against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium. The five-time champions chased down a massive target of 213 on the back of Suryakumar Yadav's half-century and Tim David's brutal hitting in the dying overs.

Mumbai registered a record chase in their fortress on Sunday, but their skipper Rohit Sharma's dismissal in the second over is still being debated. Rohit, who turned 36, yesterday (April 30), had a bad day at work, but the team's win certainly brought him joy. The right-handed batter fell to Sandeep Sharma's knuckle ball delivery on the final ball of the second over.

Rohit made some room for himself to hit, but he completely misses the ball. Wicket-keeper Sanju Samson collected the ball near the stumps but at the same time, the bails were dislocated. Replays caused confusion among fans as it seems like Samson's gloves whipped the bails off rather than the ball.

Below is a video of Rohit's dismissal:

On his special day, Rohit had to return to the pavilion after scoring just three runs in five balls. Controversy still surrounds Rohit's dismissal, with many saying keeper's glove touched the bail while trying to collect the ball. However, a new picture doing the rounds on the internet shows that Samson's gloves were far from the stumps.

Here's the image:

Meanwhile, some fans were not convinced enough to draw a conclusion from this image as many say that the image is less clear and that it was after Samson had collected the ball. It also confuses them because, if not his glove, how did the bails fall when the ball does not appear to be touching the stumps.

MI's victory overshadowed Jaiswal's maiden hundred

Talking about the match, RR chose to bat first and scored 212 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his maiden IPL century to give them a competitive total as the rest of the batters failed to contribute much.

In reply, Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan ensured a good powerplay for the hosts and Suryakumar Yadav took the momentum forward. After that, Tim David and Tilak Varma formed a brilliant partnership to cross the finish line. With 17 runs needed in the last over, the Australian big hitter hit three consecutive sixes to wrap things up for MI.

Here's how fans reacted to the viral image:
