England collapse incredibly in the first innings of Lord’s test, as Australia take a lead of 91 runs after the first innings of the second test. Replying to Australia’s 416 in the first innings, England got a fiery start, as the top three of England, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope scored 48(48), 98(134), and 42(63) respectively. England was 188/1 at one point of time in their innings and looked all set to post a massive first-innings total.

Towards the end of Day 2, Australia inflicted a mini-collapse. As Hazlewood got the better of a well-set Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope threw away his wicket off Green’s bowling against the run of play. The star batter of England, Joe Root, was undone by a spectacular catch from Steve Smith, which was also controversial. Harry Brook and Captain Stokes ensured no more hiccups. From 188/1, England lost three wickets towards the end of the second day.

Bouncer barrage from Australian pacers

Australia seemed to have a plan against English batters on Day 3. Mitchell Starc started a deadly spell against the batters with a series of bouncers. The left arm pacer got a bit more from the surface. Pat Cummins hit the deck hard and got an extra bounce off the surface for himself. The fast-bowling duo ran riot on the English batting lineup. The lower middle order was undone by the bouncers from Starc and Cummins.

As Starc dismissed captain Stokes and a dangerous Harry Brook, Cummins was penetrative at the other end. Hazlewood chipped in and got the wicket of Jonny Bairstow. Travis Head bowled a good little spell and helped the team to clean up the tail. The part-timer dismissed the likes of Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson. Captain Cummins dismissed Josh Tongue from a shorter delivery almost like a tribute to their plans. From 188/1 at one stage, England was dismissed for 325. The unbelievable collapse saw England’s last nine wickets falling for just 137 runs.
