The T20 fever has taken over the entire world as the 20-20 World Cup has announced its arrival in grand style on Sunday. The mega event will see 16 teams fighting amongst themselves for the ultimate T20 glory. Australia being the hosts and defending champions are the favourites to win the competition.

There’s no tournament in cricket where India doesn’t go in as one of the contenders for the title. The ‘Men-in-Blue’ might not be in the best of forms heading into the World Cup but underestimating their potential can be dangerous for the opposition. With just one week to go in India’s opening encounter, let’s take a look at three reasons which make India a strong contender for the 20-20 World Cup:

The ‘Men in Blue’ are ranked at no one spot in the T20I rankings which is a testament to their consistent performance in the past year. They have not lost a single series in the past year beating teams like New Zealand, England, Australia and South Africa heading into the World Cup. The vast experience of the youngsters playing in the Indian T20 League cannot be forgotten as well.

India and strong batting are synonymous with each other. They will once again head into the tournament with a star-studded batting lineup including the likes of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. All the batters in the Indian team have the ability to turn the game on its head with their stupendous performance. They will once again hold the key in the World Cup.

3 Variety in bowling

India have enough variety in their bowling attack to outfox the opposition batters. The spin trio consists of both right and left-arm bowlers bowling in different styles.

The pace attack is also equally versatile with the swing king Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling at the start. Mohammed Shami brings with him express pace with immaculate control on his line and length. Arshdeep Singh has the tremendous ability to bowl pinpoint yorkers at the death. Harshal Patel is known for his numerous variations. The variety in bowling will make the opposition search for answers as new weapons will be thrown at them by every bowler.
