In a recent announcement by Indian selectors, star Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was snubbed from the Asia Cup squad. Chahal last played an ODI at the start of the year against New Zealand, whereas his last game for the Men in Blue was in the recently concluded T2OI series vs West Indies where the Indian side lost the five-game series by 2-3.

The Rohit Sharma-led side is going with two spinners for the continental championship starting on August 30 - Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Moreover, in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 named by Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee, a total of 17 players have been named, and Hardik Pandya has been named as the deputy for Rohit Sharma.

Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah are returning to the ODI squad after recovering from injuries for the continental championship, while Sajnu Samson has been selected as a reserve player in the squad, which takes the side total to 18 in the squad.

Here is Yuzvendra Chahal's viral post-

Asia Cup will be held in the 50-over format

In the tournament, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal are taking part. All six teams are divided into two groups, A and B. India, Pakistan, and Nepal are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh are on the opposite table. Pakistan and Bangladesh have already announced their Asia Cup squads. This year's Asia Cup fixtures are scheduled to be in the 50-over format

“So fortunately we can take 17 here, it’ll be 15 at the World Cup. So when the time comes we’ll take that decision, but at the moment it, at least, gives the coach and captain an opportunity to have him with the squad." said Rohit in the press conference when asked about Chahal’s exclusion.

India's 17-man Asia Cup squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (vc), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.
