'This is where MS was so good' - Ravi Shastri compares Dinesh Karthik to MS Dhoni after his failed LBW appeal

India vs Australia 2022 series is turning out to be a thundering one for the fans. But for India, it might well become a series to forget. The fans, the coaching staff, the experts and even the skipper look puzzled about what is going wrong for the Men in Blue. Death bowling to fielding, India darted at rock bottom in all departments against Australia in the first T20I at Mohali. 

However, the Men in Blue dropped many catches and looked rusty on the field. Comparatively, teams from developing countries perform well with the limited resources that they have. India will have only themselves to blame for all that is going wrong for them. Ravi Shastri, the former Indian head coach looked angered at India’s miscommunication right throughout the game. 

To comment on one incident, Yuzvendra Chahal had a golden opportunity in the fifth over to remove Cameron Green from Australia had they appealed for an LBW. However, a lack of intent from wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik forced the bowler and the skipper to keep their calm. Much to the surprise of the trio, the TV screen displayed the replay and the ball hit the leg stumps pretty easily. 

This angered the Indian fans and skipper Rohit Sharma who in turn gave a fiery look at Yuzvendra Chahal. However, the wicketkeeper from Tamil Nadu played a big role as he looked without excitement for the same. The former Indian coach, who was in the commentary panel, took note of it and compared Karthik to MS Dhoni right away.

The commentators took cognizance of the trio staring at each other and opined on the same. “This is what happened in the previous over, straight delivery, he went for a sweep. India did not review. The ball was hitting the stumps,” Sunil Gavaskar said on India’s failed appeal attempt. 

While Ravi Shastri backed up Sunil Gavaskar by saying that it was hitting the stumps pretty neatly, Murali Karthik came into the picture to give his opinion. 

“I wish we could pan to the cameras. Dinesh Karthik the wicketkeeper, Chahal and Rohit Sharma at point... as soon as they saw the giant screen, all of them were having a look at one another. I wish we could have panned immediately," Murali Karthik said. 

It was then, Ravi Shastri compared Dinesh Karthik to MS Dhoni and praised the latter for his attention skills. “Such an important role, the keepers. This is where MS was so good," the former coach said.

As it stands, Australia leads the series 0-1 and India will look to make a comeback in Friday’s encounter.
