Australia registered a resounding 9-wicket victory over India in the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It was Team India's first Test loss at home since their 227-run loss against England in Chennai two years ago. Rohit Sharma and Co will have to answer for approach, selection and responsibility ahead of the final Test in Ahmedabad, to win the series comfortably and secure a spot in the WTC final.

After winning the first two Tests, India were expected to whitewash the series 4-0. But it backfired as former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri accused India of being 'overconfident' in the third Test.

"This is what a little complacency, a little bit of overconfidence can do where you take things for granted, you drop guard and this game will bring you down," Shastri said during commentary on Day 3.

Stating that India needs to reflect on this loss to perform better, the former India captain said: "I think it was a combination of all these things when you actually cast your mind back to the first innings, see some of the shots played, see some of the over-eagerness to try and dominate in these conditions. You reflect back, take a step back or two to analyse."

Loss in the 3rd Test complicated India's qualification for the WTC final

Rahul Dravid's men were bowled out for 109 in the first innings after a miserable first-day performance and the story was no different in the second innings as they managed to take only 163 runs. Barring Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored a brilliant half-century (59 off 142), none of the batters had a great time. Nathan Lyon's 8-64 ripped India and the hosts could only take a lead of 75 runs. India gave a scare in the first over by dismissing Usman Khawaja (0), but composed knocks from Marnus Labuschagne (28*) and Travis Head (49*) guided Australia home.

A win in the Indore Test could have secured a spot for India in the upcoming World Test Championship final. However, Rohit's team could still qualify but there are complications. Either they need to win the final Test in Ahmedabad or depend on the result of the series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
