England star Harry Brook's magnificent century helped Sunrisers Hyderabad register a mammoth total against Kolkata Knight Riders in match number 19 of the Indian Premier League 2023. The 24-year-old did not have an impressive showing in the previous matches, but he announced his IPL arrival with a bang against KKR at the Eden Gardens on Friday, April 14.

SRH lost a couple of early wickets, but Brook, who opened the innings with Mayank Agarwal, guided the innings with tremendous striking and hammered the first century of the 2023 IPL in his debut. Brooks' blistering 100 runs off 55 balls, which included three sixes and twelve fours, and Aiden Markram's superb half-century, along with handy contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, helped the former champions set a massive target of 228 runs.

Talking about the match, KKR won the toss and chose to bowl first, but Brook proved them wrong by smashing the bowlers around the ground. Andre Russell provided the hosts a breakthrough by removing Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi in the fifth over. However, it had no effect on Brook's momentum, as the English batter, together with Markram (50 off 26), kept them going with an excellent strike rate.

Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Markram in the 13th over, but youngster Abhishek played a quick fire innings (32 off 17) with Brook. KKR need to chase 229 runs to continue their winning streak in the ongoing tournament. The two-time IPL winners have made a dismal start, losing three wickets for 26 runs in four overs.

Speaking after the stunning knock, Brook admitted that he struggled a bit against the spinning bowling. His family members were also present at Eden Gardens.

"I’ve had a bit of trouble with spin, but I wanted to use the powerplay to my advantage. So middle overs wanted to rotate strike and let the other boys do the hitting. It is a belter of a pitch, we need to bowl our lengths rightly and take wickets. We still got a job to do. My girlfriend is here but the rest of my family have just left, I’m sure they’ll all be very happy for me."
