In a big move that was part of the revamp after the shock exit of India from the 20-20 World Cup, the Indian Cricket Board sacked the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee. Applications for the appointment of new selectors have been put in by the board and the deadline to submit the same is November 28.
The Indian Team failed to go past yet another semi-final when it came to world events. The England team were too good for them on the night at Adelaide. India were kept down to just 168-6 and then the bowling attack was not able to find answers to a 170-run record opening stand between Jos Buttler and Alex Hales.
The news of the removal of the Indian Selection committee has made headlines everywhere and it has garnered attention all over. Speaking on the same, this is what former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt made some comments on this sudden incident that happened in Indian Cricket. Here is what he had to say:
"What was the reason for not having an out and out fast bowler for the 20-20 World Cup, when you are playing in Australia, where you have to play in Perth and Melbourne. Even when they sacked Kohli, they didn't have a valid reason. They said that he did not win a World Event. How many captains have won a World trophy? A lot of players finish their career despite not winning a trophy," said Butt on his YouTube channel.
Virat Kohli did a great job as Captain - Salman Butt
"So, did they win a trophy now? He was a quality captain. He wasn't the only reason why they failed to win a trophy. The team hasn't improved that much either since then," he added. "If it was all about winning, and you needed a winning captain, it's not like MS Dhoni couldn't have played in T20Is. He is still fit. When he was there as mentor during the T20 World Cup in UAE, only Kohli was as at fit as him. Visibly, no one looked fitter than him." Butt Opined.
"Virat Kohli was doing a great job, it was unfortunate that he did not win a World title. But the think-tank could have thought about what were the reasons for not winning? It was not like if you remove Virat Kohli, everything will be taken care of. The drastic change resulted in Virat Kohli's poor form, I am sure he would have suffered mentally," He added.
