India added yet another bilateral series trophy to their cabinet. This was the one that was played after their shock World Cup exit against England. There was an anti-climatic end to the series as it ended up in a tie due to a long rain interruption. India kept New Zealand down to just 161 courtesy of Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh.
When India were chasing the target, they were 75-4 before the rain came pouring down in torrents and no further play was possible. India were 75-4 in nine overs which was the DLS par score at the point. In what was a shake-up to the 20-20 side, several youngsters were picked as the senior players were rested.
But one among them who warmed the bench throughout the series was Sanju Samson. He wasn’t considered for the third T20I which was surprising considering India were already one-up in the series. In the third game, India made only one change as Harshal Patel was brought in for Washington Sundar.
They will never learn from their mistakes - Dodda Ganesh
Shreyas Iyer did not have the best of times with the bat as he scored only 13 runs and a duck in the two games that he played, speaking on the same, this is what former Indian cricketer Dodda Ganesh had to say, “By picking Iyer ahead of Samson the Indian think tank has reiterated that they’ll not learn from their mistakes and they shall never change their approach towards T20," He said in a tweet on Tuesday.

When Hardik Pandya was quizzed about it in the post-match press conference this is what he said, “If they are sitting out… Sanju Samson, for example: we wanted to play him, but for whatever reason, we couldn’t," Pandya said. “But I can get into their shoes and understand how they are feeling. As a cricketer, it is difficult, whatever one might say..
But if I can create a healthy environment, where the players can come and speak to me if they are feeling bad, or go and speak to the coach, if I remain the captain, I think it won’t be a problem. Because my nature is such that I make sure everyone is together."
He went on to say that everyone will get a chance and that they need to stay patient. He also added that this was a short series and that is why everyone could not be given a chance.
