‘There is no doubt about Virat Kohli’s abilities’ – Parthiv Patel believes Virat Kohli might open in the Asia Cup 2022

Virat Kohli has been rested for the entire West Indies series. The batter has also been rested for the Zimbabwe series. Amid all the chaos, Virat Kohli cleared the air as reports revealed that he informed the selectors of his availability for the Asia Cup 2022. Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel believes that Virat Kohli might do well as an opener.

The former Indian wicket-keeper opined that the star-India batter Virat Kohli might open for India. He said in the Cricbuzz’s show ‘Talking Point’ that the former skipper might open in the Asia Cup 2022. He said that he has no doubts about Virat’s abilities.

“There is no doubt about Virat Kohli’s abilities. It is just about the form, it is just about which position you want him to play,” Patel said. “That is why Asia Cup becomes very crucial. Not for him, just for India’s point of view also whether they get the right combination or not,” he added further.

He weighed in on the fact that the batter’s best performances have come when he opened for the Bangalore franchise. Patel added that the batter played well in the Indian T20 League when he opened.

Harsha Bhogle said that he found it weird to see Virat Kohli auditioning for the Asia Cup 2022. "It sounds very weird that Virat Kohli is auditioning . But it might well be that,” Bhogle said. “I think with Virat Kohli, you are not looking at how many runs he has scored. Whether he is comfortable, whether he is hitting the ball well because then the runs will come,” Bhogle added further.

The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been in a lean patch for a very long time now. It will be three years since his last international century this November. The batter has tried his best to make a comeback but has failed so far. The selectors are hoping that he might return to form right before the Asia Cup 2022.
