'The winning momentum will keep going' - Harmanpreet Kaur opens up on captaining Mumbai in inaugural Women's T20 League

Under the leadership of current Indian men's team captain Rohit Sharma, Mumbai have become the most successful side in the men's Indian T20 League, having won the competition five times in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

By acquiring one of the five teams in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League, the five-time IPL champions have increased their support for women's cricket. At the WT20L 2023 auction, Mumbai Indians paid INR 1.80 crore to acquire Harmanpreet's services, who has the most T20I caps and leads the Indian women's team.

What did Harmanpreet Kaur talk about as Mumbai Captain?

Harmanpreet Kaur, the newly announced Mumbai skipper spoke in a video posted by the franchise. She spoke about how it is an honour for her to represent such a successful franchise.

She said, “It's a very emotional moment for me. I've seen Mumbai Indians do so well on TV. And now, I'm going to be a part of it. I think it's a great achievement and I am really looking forward to being part of this team." 

The Indian team skipper then spoke about the winning mentality that Mumbai have built over the years. 

“I will also try to follow the same legacy. We will also let the winning momentum keep going on. The way Rohit's team was doing. That aggressive cricket they were playing", she said. 

The right handed batter then discussed how important it is for them to enjoy the game.

“The most important thing is we will just go there (and) enjoy ourselves. This is a great moment for all the cricketers and we just want to be there, give our 100% and just try to win all matches for Mumbai Indians.", she added.  

The 17-player Mumbai team's captain in the Women's T20 League 2023 season was announced to be Harmanpreet Kaur, yesterday, by the franchise.
