Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, failed to contribute with the bat for team India in the clash against Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne. The batter has not been at his best of late and many fans opined that the opener must find a way out of the labyrinth.

Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketer, said that the batter must find his form back and added that the only concern about Rohit is his lack of runs of late. Notably, the team India captain has an average of 24.72 and only two fifties to his name in the shortest format this year.

“The only concern really has been that Rohit Sharma of late has not quite scored with the same capability we know him to. I think if he gets going it really makes people’s life really easy for people to follow,” Gavaskar told India Today.

Although India won the opening clash against Pakistan on Sunday, it was Virat Kohli who remained unbeaten till the end and helped team India win by scoring 82 runs. Rohit, who has a strike rate of 140.933 in T20Is this year, made only 4 runs off 7 balls in the high-octane clash.

A good platform is what everyone looks at: Gavaskar

Further, the former Indian cricketer said that the Indian team must look to get off to a good start and added that India must not repeat the mistakes that they made against Pakistan. India will face the Netherlands on October 27, Thursday, in Sydney and the openers must contribute for the Men in Blue to make it to the semis.

“A good platform is what everyone looks at. You give a good platform, a good start and it makes that much easier for somebody coming down at four or five to start hitting the ball from the first ball,” Gavaskar told.

“They don’t have to give themselves time to settle in, they don't have to give themselves time to steady the ship like India had to do against Pakistan when they were four wickets down for 31. So, even if you get a slightly slower start, maybe get to about 40 after losing 1 wicket, that is a much better platform than 31/4,” he added.
