Babar Azam is one of the greatest ever to have played for Pakistan. The Men in Green have found a gem in the young blood and he has reached legendary status already. However, every player goes through a small rough patch during their peak and so did the Pakistan skipper in the Asia Cup 2022.
Babar Azam has hit the headlines yet again and this is because of his century against England. In the second T20I against England, the Men in Green faced the former after tasting a defeat in the first match. Pakistan great amassed 110 runs off just 66 balls and slapped all his critics right on the face. The Men in Green legend replied to all his haters in style and put an end to his strike rate issues as well.
While chasing a target of 199 put on the board by England, Mohammad Rizwan and the skipper joined hands yet again to open the innings. As one could expect, fans judged the duo pretty quickly and ruled Pakistan out of the match. However, the Pakistan star Babar Azam made a stunning comeback and registered his century in style.
In addition to the century, Pakistan won the match by ten wickets resembling their chase against India in the 20-20 World Cup last year. Fans went berserk and some even got emotional on seeing their idol take on the stage yet again.
The team always supported me: Babar Azam
Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation that his team management backed him a lot. He further opined on the patch and approach that they batted with. The Pakistan skipper further recollected a few matches and said that they had the confidence to chase it down as they have done it in the past.
“The discussion was we can chase it down, we have done it before and that was the belief in the dressing room. The wicket always plays better under lights and it played better than what we expected. The discussions with Rizwan were to finish the match. I always had the belief (during the run of low scores) that you need that as a sportsman. The team always supported me and kept backing me,” Babar Azam said in the post-match presentation.
Let’s take a look at a few stunning reactions from fans on Twitter on Babar Azam’s roaring century:
