Neeraj Chopra, the golden boy of India, became the second Indian to win a medal at World Athletics Championships. Anderson Peters clinched the gold with a 90.42-meter throw. Neeraj started with a foul, and after the third round, the golden boy was in fourth place. In the fourth throw, he turned things around with an 88.13-meter throw.
He ended up in second place. This made him the second Indian to win a medal at World Athletics Championships after Anju Bobby George. In a virtual interview with the Times of India, Neeraj revealed that he was satisfied with the result. However, the fiery athlete agreed that the “hunger for the gold” will never fade. Neeraj agreed that the conditions were tough and challenging. He added that he knew that he won’t be able to win gold all the time.
He added that his next aim would be to win gold at the Commonwealth Games. “I will do what is in my control...focus and concentrate on my training,” Neeraj added. When asked if he was under pressure for being an Olympic champion, Neeraj disagreed. He said that he was never under pressure. Neeraj said that he believed in himself after the third row. He agreed that he made a good “comeback” and won silver. And when asked about the strap on his thighs, he said that he felt “something” on his thighs.
He admitted that the fourth throw could have gone further. “I thought even the fourth throw could have gone farther. After that, I felt something on my thigh and could not do my best in the next two,” Neeraj said. He added that his body was “still warm” after the tournament and he would know the status soon. Neeraj has his eyes set on winning a medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 to be in Birmingham.
Many of the athletes in India came forward to convey their wishes to Neeraj Chopra. His name was all over social media after winning the silver medal.
