Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has had a fantastic run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, and on Friday (May 19). The 21-year-old shattered a 15-year-old record to become the league's most successful uncapped player. Jaiswal hit a half-century in RR's last league match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala, breaking the record of most runs in a season by an uncapped player held by former Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh.

Jaiswal had 575 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 166.18 prior to the must-win game versus PBKS. The left-hander smashed a 35-ball 50 that helped RR to a four-wicket win and became the second-highest run scorer in IPL 2023 with 625 runs. The youngster surpassed Marsh's record of 616 runs for the Punjab-based franchise in the inaugural edition of the IPL (2008).

Having scored his maiden IPL century against Mumbai Indians (MI), earlier, this season (124 off 62 balls) - highest score by an uncapped batter in IPL history), Jaiswal added another milestone to his name by recording his fifth fifty - becoming the first Indian uncapped player to aggregate more than 600 runs.

Following the dismissal of his opening partner, Jos Buttler, for a duck, Jaiswal's knock of eight boundaries and Devdutt Padikkal's 30-ball 50 got RR back on track in a 188-run chase.

Jaiswal won't have to wait long to get his maiden Team India call-up

Jaiswal, who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket, is one of the finds of IPL 2023 who has impressed Indian selectors enough to be considered a future star. Several ex-cricketers and experts have already voiced their interest in granting him his maiden India call-up, and former India wicket-keeper batter Robin Uthappa, recently, said that Jaiswal is one of the biggest things in Indian cricket.

"Extremely special. Along with Shubman Gill, he (Jaiswal) is one the biggest things of the Indian cricket. Not just maturity, I think hunger. You can see it in his eyes, he wants it so badly and that is fantastic. Don't stop young man," Uthappa said on JioCinema.
