India, under the leadership of Kapil Dev, won the World Cup for the first time in 1983. Since then, despite having the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid etc. in the team, India struggled to clinch a major trophy.

Later, in the early 20s, Sourav Ganguly rejuvenated the Indian team and brought a few young players into the team. The legend from Kolkata brought in a guy from Ranchi and provided him with the much needed opportunities. MS Dhoni was later handed over the captaincy for the 2007 20-20 World Cup. Much to the delight of the fans, he led team India for the first time in the 20-20 World Cup 2007.

The veteran wicketkeeper filled the void in the Indian team and helped the Men in Blue do well in the inaugural season of the 20-20 World Cup. Speaking of the tournament, India’s first game came against Pakistan and MS Dhoni and Co. won the match in a bowl-out. After doing exceptionally well in the tournament, the teams met yet again in the finals.

The MS Dhoni-led team, once again, beat the Pakistan team in the final. However, the win did not come easily as the match almost slipped out of the hands of India. India batted first and put on a total of 157 on board. The Men in Green came close to chasing down the target until Misbah-ul-Haq made a blunder in the final over.

MS Dhoni kept rotating the bowlers well and handed the ball over to Joginder Sharma for the final over. With six needed off the final four balls, a mistimed scoop landed straight into the hands of S Sreesanth.

One could recollect Ravi Shastri’s epic commentary as S Sreesanth took the catch and helped India clinch the trophy. India won the trophy on September 24 2007. It has been fifteen years, since. The days have passed but the memories still remain etched in the hearts of every single fan from India.
