India won the second ODI against West Indies by 2 wickets. Axar Patel took the team home with a stunning knock of 64. After winning the toss, the West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran opted to bat first. After a steady first wicket partnership, West Indies lost their first wicket for 65 runs. West Indies at the end of 50 overs, posted a total of 311 for the loss of 6 wickets. Shai Hope scored 115 of 135 balls. And skipper Nicholas Pooran scored 74 off 77 balls as he played the anchoring role. Shikhar Dhawan appreciated the young team for their composure.

India lost their first wicket for 48 runs. Shikhar was the first one to go for 13 runs. Gill followed him as India was reduced to 66 for 2 wickets. India was further reduced to 79 of 17 overs after losing their third wicket. Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson put on a steady partnership for the fourth wicket which set the tone for India. At 45.5overs, India lost their seventh wicket with 280 runs on board.

Axar Patel, who was playing the anchoring role, started his onslaught thereon. With six needed off three balls, Axar smashed a full toss to a six on the fourth ball of the final over. He has adjourned the man of the match for his unbeaten knock. India’s win ensured their series win against the Caribbean in the ODIs. Dhawan appreciated the young team in the post-match presentation. He said that Shreyas, Sanju and Axar were all brilliant. He thanked the Indian T20 league for their performances.

“Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel everyone was amazing. Even Avesh Khan came out in his debut match & scored those 11 important runs. Thanks to IPL, they perform on a huge stage,” Dhawan said. He said that the victory was “unbelievable” and lauded the self-confidence of his boys. He assured Indian cricket fans and media that the Indian team would look to win the final ODI as well. The third ODI will be played at the same venue on July 27. India will look to seal the series in style. Definitely, a whitewash is in the offing.
