Venus Williams set for a comeback
World number 408, Venus Williams wants to make a return to professional tennis. The former world number 1 had played a handful of tournaments this year. The last match that Venus Williams had was during the 2023 US Open where she lost in the first round.
As per sources, the coming 2024 season will see a lot more of the senior Williams sibling. The 43-year-old wants to get fit and wants to recapture her old glory which had seen her rule the court.
Venus made her professional debut in 1994 when she was just 14 years old. In 1997 she lost her first singles final in a grand slam as she was beaten by Martin Hingis in the US Open final.
After years of waiting for a grand slam title, Venus went on to achieve great success. Her first Australian Open title win came in 2003, while she won the French Open in 2002. The year 2000 saw Venus Williams win the Wimbledon and US Open for the first time.
In a career spanning nearly three decades, Venus has won 10 single grand slam titles. She has also won the Gold Medal in both singles and doubles during the 2000 Sydney and 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Along with her sister Serena Williams, the 43-year-old has also dominated the doubles circuit. To date, Venus Williams has won the doubles titles in grand slam tournaments on 14 occasions. She was also rated World Number at the age of 30 when she achieved the peak in 2010.
