India and Australia locked horns in the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Delhi. The visitors, Aussies were coming into the game trailing the series by 1-0. On the other hand, the home team was looking to take an unassailable lead in the four-match series. Meanwhile, in the game, the Pat Cummins-led side once again won the toss and batted first.

At the end of Day One, they were bowled out for 263 runs. Usman Khawaja (81) and Peter Handscomb (72) scored the fifties and a useful 33 from the skipper helped the team to reach a fighting total. For the World Number Two Test side, Mohammed Shami took four wickets while the pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three each.

In reply, the Rohit Sharma-led side was reduced to 139/7 on Day Two. However, thanks to Axar Patel (74) and Ashwin (37), the team scored one run less than Australia. Apart from them, the former India skipper Virat Kohli showed glimpses of returning to form with 44 runs.

Australia sweeps its way out of the series

In the second innings, the World Number One had the lead of one run which is why they needed to bat long to challenge India. However, thanks to their stubbornness about sticking to sweep shots, they were bowled out for 113 runs. Most of the batters during the second innings lost their wickets trying to either play the conventional sweeps or reverse sweeps.

After having nine wickets in hand at the start of Day Three, they lost all of their remaining wickets in the first session. With India needing 115 runs to win, the writing was pretty much on the wall. This presented KL Rahul with an opportunity to get some runs before the third Test next month. However, he was caught behind by Alex Carey as the ball reflected off the short-leg fielder.

Meanwhile, India chased down the target after losing four wickets. With this win, India has ensured that they won't lose the series. Also, they are now pretty much likely to play the Global Test Championship final.
