Legends League Cricket 2022 kicked off yesterday with a special match between World Giants and India Maharajas. This special match was to celebrate India’s 75 years of Independence. The Giants skipper Jacques Kallis opted to bat after winning the toss.

World Giants got off to a stunner with Kevin O’Brien and Hamilton Masakadza toying with the India Maharajas’ bowlers. The Irish star kept finding boundaries and maximums at will and kept pushing the scoreboard further. However, in the final over of the powerplay, Pankaj Singh dismissed the Zimbabwe veteran to restrict the Giants at 59 for 1.

The skipper joined O'Brien with the hope to make the most out of the momentum. The latter managed to bag a fine fifty to his name and crumbled to Joginder Sharma. Jaques Kallis followed him quickly to the dressing room and World Giants fell into the trap right away.

A quiet middle over followed the skipper’s wicket until the sixteenth over. The death overs turned out to be a costly one for the India Maharajas as World Giants batter Denesh Ramdin and Thisara Perera started hitting maximums for fun. An expensive penultimate over S Sreesanth powered the Giants to 170-8.

India Maharajas did not get the start that they want. Skipper Virender Sehwag measured his way back to the pavilion in the first over. Albeit the southpaw Parthiv Patel followed his skipper in the fifth over, Mohammad Kaif helped India reach the forty-run mark at the end of the powerplay.

It was all about Yusuf Pathan and Tanmay Srivastava for India Maharajas in the middle overs as the duo kept nicking the ball. The former kept hitting maximums at regular intervals to match the required run rate. Post the dismissal of Srivastava, Irfan Pathan joined hands with his brother to take the team home.

India Maharajas clinched the win by six wickets and provided a great start to the tournament’s league matches that’ll begin on Saturday.
