Suryakumar Yadav reacts to being appointed as vice-captain of the Indian T20 side

In a major reset in India’s T20 squad, senior players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have not been included in the T20s against Sri Lanka as Hardik Pandya will captain the side. In the ODIs though, Rohit will lead the side with Hardik as his deputy.

The other big story that has come in is about Suryakumar Yadav. He has been named the vice-captain of the Indian T20 side for the Sri Lanka series. He has had a phenomenal year in the T20s. He has scored 1164 runs in the 31 matches that he has played at an average of 45.56 and a strike rate of 187.43. He has had 9 half-centuries and two centuries in the format.

He talked about how he felt after being appointed vice-captain for the Men in Blue. “It (vice-captaincy) wasn’t expected, but the way the past year has been for me, I can say that it’s like a reward for me. I’m feeling very good about it, and I’m really looking forward to it. I closed my eyes and asked myself: ‘Is this a dream?," He said in an interview with the Times of India.

“My father forwarded the (team) to me, because he’s always on social media. Then, we spoke to each other. He also sent me a small message: 'Not to take any pressure and enjoy your batting,". The right-handed batter added. He earned a late call into the national side, but he has gone leaps and bounds since then. He has been a great addition to the Indian side due to his 360-degree style of play.

He then talked about his equation with Pandya who will lead the side against Sri Lanka. “Absolutely. Our bond has always been very good. We’ve played a lot together for India and MI. Our batting numbers are also one after the other. We’ve batted a lot together. We complement each other. He’s been a fantastic leader, as you’ve seen in the IPL, and recently, while leading India. So, I really enjoy playing under his captaincy," Suryakumar added.
