Chase master Virat Kohli scored a magnificent century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Thursday to take Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) inches closer to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoffs. It was a must-win game for RCB to stay in the hunt for the final four spots, and their former captain led from the front in a 187-run chase to  win by eight wickets.

Batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH posted a highly competitive total on the back of Heinrich Klaasen's stunning century. The visitors needed a flying start to stay in the contest, which Kohli gave by showing the intent from the very first ball boundary against Buvaneshwar Kumar. The RCB skipper Faf du Plessis got off to a slow start but found rhythm in the fourth over when he smashed Karthik Tyagi for three consecutive boundaries.

Kohli brought up his century in style with a six

The two openers were on song throughout the chase, stitching the highest partnership for the season (172) before Kohli was dismissed in the 18th over after hitting his sixth IPL century. The ace batter celebrated his milestone with a loft over deep midwicket for a six, and the entire RCB dugout and Hyderabad crowd applauded the 'King'. Kohli's innings ended immediately after his century, but the 63 deliveries he faced included 12 fours and fours maximums, which kept the audience amused.

"Quite special considering the magnitude of the game. Thought SRH got a very good score. Ball was gripping as well. Faf's been on a different level. I've had a quiet couple of games. The way I was hitting in the nets wasn't transitioning into the middle," the right-handed batter said at the post-match presentation.

Following Kohli's match-winning knock, the Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter Suryakumar Yadav took to his Instagram and shared a story appreciating him. A few days ago Kohli posted a story for SKY after scoring a scintillating century against Gujarat Titans (GT). The two share a special bond with each other and cricket fans have expressed their love for Suryakumar's story.
