Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been struck another blow after suffering back-to-back losses in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, as they will be without the services of their star all-rounder Washington Sundar for the remainder of the season. Sundar has been ruled out for the season due to a hamstring injury, the franchise announced on Thursday.

So far, no replacement has been announced by SRH management. "Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Speedy recovery, Washi," the franchise wrote on Twitter.

Sundar's all-round prowess did not help SRH win against DC

SRH have won only two matches out of seven matches played so far in the tournament. Sundar, although not reaching his top form this season, is a vital member of his team. He didn't make much of an impact for SRH in the initial matches, but things turned around in their last encounter against Delhi Capitals (DC).

He took three wickets in one over, including the big wicket of David Warner. His figures of 3/28 in four overs aided SRH in restricting DC to a modest total. The right-handed batter then contributed with his batting skills, scoring 24 off 15 balls. However, his all-round prowess could not help SRH win the match as DC won by 7 runs in a low-scoring thriller.

Injuries have continuously hampered Sundar's cricket career over the years. He was forced to miss the second leg of the IPL in 2021 due to to a finger injury, and a Covid-19 infection kept him out of international cricket following the end of the season. While Sundar started a steady run injury-free, a hamstring strain hit the Tamil Nadu player again.

SRH are currently in the ninth position in the IPL 2023 points table with two wins and five losses. The Hyderabad-based franchise needs to bounce back in the remaining games to mark their presence in the playoffs. They will next face DC on Saturday, April 29 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
