India were in a spot of bother at the end of Day 3 when they had lost 4-45 on a Dhaka pitch that was slow and offered spin. And it was not a pitch where the batters could survive for a long time with defence alone. There was a need for negotiation and some counter-attack.

India needed 100 runs to win on Day 4. They were in a spot of bother at 74-7. But Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer took India out of trouble. Ashwin played an outstanding innings of 42 off 62 balls with four fours and 1 six. After India won the game, Gaurav Kalra the journalist wrote a comment about Ashwin on Twitter.

“Ashwin is one of Indian cricket's all-time greats” he said, to which Wasim Jaffer reacted to the tweet with an intention to correct Kalra and wrote, World* cricket's. Ashwin has as many Test tons as Flintoff, and more wickets than Steyn. Once Jaffer made this statement, it led to a huge debate on Twitter.

India were down to the last recognized batting pair of Ashwin and Iyer. The two put together the highest 8th wicket stand in Test cricket for India which was worth 71 runs. Iyer also played a mature innings of 29 off 46 balls with four fours. This is not the first time Ashwin had stood up with the bat for India as he has done it for the national team several times in the past. He has scored 3043 runs at 27.41 with five test tons to his name.

He has also been a magician with the ball for India as he has picked up 449 wickets with 30 five wickets hauls to his credit. He has a bowling average of 24.30. The Test maverick for India has had a great Test career since his debut in 2011 and has not looked back ever since.

He has been a match-winner for India and made the Indian Test Team and given the added batting depth to the Indian Test squad which has made India into a solid Test team to reckon with. That comment from Jaffer on Ashwin sparked up various reactions on Twitter and there was heated debate. Let us look at the reactions here-
