Ravindra Jadeja's performance in the IPL 2023 final last night, according to CSK coach Stephen Fleming, helped the side win their fifth IPL championship. With the ball, Jadeja has had a fantastic season for CSK, picking up 20 wickets during the IPL 2023 season, which was his most prolific performance in the league.
This year, the Indian all-rounder's performance with the bat was inconsistent. However, the 34-year-old had the ability to have an effect with both the bat and the ball in this season's Playoffs. In Qualifier 1 against GT, Jadeja's all-round contribution was essential, and in the final, he returned to torment the same opponents.
In a nail-biting final ball finish, the left-arm spinner scored the winning runs for CSK and claimed Shubman Gill’s wicket, who has been in terrific form this season. Fleming praised the 34-year-old's efforts and stated he plays a key role for the club with the ball during the postgame news conference.
Stephen Fleming's statement on match-winner Ravindra Jadeja
Stephen Fleming said, "It was a pretty good one today. It's probably been a difficult 18 months where the captaincy was difficult. The injury was difficult. It took a bit of time for him to be out of the game and come reinvigorated in the Test game and then reintegrate into CSK. He plays a great role with the ball. But we have so much firepower, that sometimes we use him lower down the order. But something had to give."
When it comes to moving Jadeja up the order, the CSK coach claimed that MS Dhoni is extremely beneficial and aggressive. While acknowledging that the Indian all-rounder has experienced some disappointing moments, Fleming went on to state that Jadeja is a fierce competitor and that he delivered on the final day.
The CSK coach then said, "MS has been really supportive and proactive in getting him up there and today he repaid that faith. The six, in particular, off a ball that was very close to perfect, was defining, and then a good left-hander straight drive through fine leg was a great way to finish it."
