The Lanka Premier League (LPL) kicked off on December 6, Tuesday. It is being played at Hambantota, Kandy and Colombo. The tournament was initially scheduled to start in August, but it was postponed due to the dire economic situation in the country. It will be held from December 6 to 23 two matches have already been played.
The big news coming from Pakistan is that Mohammad Hasnain has been denied a no-objection certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board to play in the LPL as the PCB wants Hasnain to play in the Pakistan Super Cup from 10 December to 3 January. He had to play for the Galle Gladiators, a side which is owned by Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. He has been replaced by Wahab Riaz
The Pakistan contingent to play in that LPL is huge this time as eight players will play in the LPL in the five-team franchise tournament in Sri Lanka. The contingent consists of Asad Shafiq, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Anwar Ali, Shoaib Malik, Haider Ali and Ahmed Daniyal. They will represent various franchises.
Pakistan lost the opening Test of the three-match series to England which was played at Rawalpindi. England were too good for Pakistan on a lifeless pitch and a bold declaration by England on Day 4 got them a favourable result on Day 5 in the post Tea session by 74 runs. This was only England’s third victory on Pakistan soil, The Test tour happened after 17 years. England also won the 7-match T20 series 4-3 under the captaincy of Moeen Ali sometime back.
In a big blow for Pakistan, Haris Rauf has been ruled out of the Test series against England. He has been sidelined due to a quadricep strain, He will undergo his rehabilitation at Lahore in the high-performance centre. The PCB said in a statement. Rauf was Pakistan’s strike bowler in the 20-20 World Cup in Australia as he picked 8 wickets in 7 matches with a superb economy rate of 6.84.
