Senior India batter Shikhar Dhawan has filed a complaint against his ex-wife Aesha Mukherjee for threatening to defame him. Dhawan sued Aesha in Delhi’s Patiala House Court, alleging that his estranged wife had threatened to ruin his reputation and career.
According to the case filed in Patiala court Mukherji sent some defamatory messages to the owner of the Delhi franchise of the Indian T20 League. The messages were sent to Dheeraj Malhotra, CEO of the Delhi franchise. Taking note of the same Patiala House court ordered Aesha to restrain from leveling defamatory allegations against the Indian cricketer.
“Reputation of a person is dear to everyone and is considered as the property of the highest degree because materialistic property can be regained after a loss but reputation cannot be regained once damaged. Therefore, it has got to be protected. However, it is equally true that if anyone has a lawful grievance against someone, he or she cannot be restrained from venting out his or her grievance to the concerned authority,” the judge said in the order passed on February 1.
Although, the judge ruled that, if Aesha has any "real" grievance against Dhawan, she cannot be prevented from bringing them to the appropriate authorities. “Therefore, in these circumstances, she is hereby restrained till further order from circulating any of her grievance against Dhawan or her version of the dispute involved herein or the alleged defamatory and false material against him, to social media, to print media, or to any other’ forum or to friends, relatives or colleagues of the parties,” the judge added.
Hard time continues for Shikhar Dhawan
After eight years of Marriage Shikhar Dhawan and Aesha Mukherji parted ways in August 2021. The couple tied the knot in October 2012 and have a son named Zoravar who is in his Mother’s custody in Australia.
Dhawan is fighting hard times on and off the field as the star Indian opener has been dropped from Test and T20I teams. He is currently playing only ODI matches, however, his performance has been below par and his place in the team is also under scrutiny. In his last series against Bangladesh Dhawan scored 18 runs in three matches.
