India crashed out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against England after scoring just 168-6 batting first. They had no answer in the second innings to a 170-run record partnership between Alex Hales and Jos Buttler. Later on. India won the T20 series against New Zealand 1-0 and lost the ODI series 1-0 to the Black Caps.

India will look to start afresh in the ODI series against Bangladesh which will be a three-match ODI series, followed by two Test matches. The Men in Blue will look to fine-tune their combinations and get a settled XI as they head into the ODI World Cup 2023 which will be hosted on home soil. But before the start of the series India have been dealt a big blow.

Mohammed Shami spearheaded the Indian bowling in 20-20 World Cup

Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the Bangladesh series with a shoulder injury, according to a release from the Indian Cricket Board. He was the spearhead of the Indian bowling attack in the just concluded 20-20 World Cup. He picked up 6 wickets in 6 matches and bowled some important overs at the death for India.

According to the source from the Indian Cricket Board, he has been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy and has not travelled with the team on December 1," Shami’s absence from the ODI side will not have much of an impact but it will have a bearing on India’s test side as they will look to win tests so that they can have a crack at the World Test Championship final. Shami has picked up 216 wickets from 60 Test Matches at a superb economy rate of 3.28.

The actual extent of Shami’s injury is not known yet. If Shami ends up missing the Test series against Bangladesh, Then India will have to find a new spearhead for their bowling attack as Jasprit Bumrah too is out with an injury. "Shami's absence from three ODI games is definitely a factor but bigger worry is his likely absence from Tests where he is supposed to spearhead the attack in Jasprit Bumrah's absence," said the source.
