India and Sri Lanka played one of the high-pressure matches as it was no less than a knockout for both teams. During the Super 4 of the Asia Cup 2022, the two heavyweights locked horns for the first time in the tournament. India were in a position to win the match to make it through to the next round.
The match progressed with Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka winning the toss and electing to field first. Without any doubt, Rohit Sharma started playing with intent right from ball one. Dubai International Stadium has been favouring teams bowling first so far in the tournament.
However, KL Rahul was the first one to leave the field for India as he crumbled for six runs. The most shocking moment of the match will be Virat Kohli’s dismissal as the returned for a four-ball duck. The Indian skipper tried to bring things back for the Men in Blue after losing two strong batters up front.
A push from Ravichandran Ashwin, in the end, helped India get to a total of 173/8. The fans obviously would have wanted better performance from the Indian team. The Men in Blue had to defend the total to even think of playing in the finals.
Sri Lanka inch closer to the finals
Sri Lanka had the upper hand right throughout the match as they made a brilliant comeback in the Super 4 round. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis opened the innings for the team. The entire stadium went silent as they started to bash without wasting much time settling down.
The Sharma-led brigade couldn’t understand what was going wrong for them as the batters kept taking the match away. The openers put on a stunning 97-run partnership for the opening wicket. India did pick up a few quick wickets but only in vain.
It was all Sri Lanka in the end as they thumped India with a six-wicket win and inched closer to the finals. Meanwhile, India have a lot to depend on to make it through. It is that time when the Indian fans and team must have a calculator to do all the calculations. Barring all this, a clinical win here for India would have made it easier for them.
Here are some of the Tweets:
Man Bhuvi was so clueless yesterday, in the 19th over he bowled 2 consecutive wide yorkers and both were wide, he should have used common sense and should have tried any other delivery next ball but again he bowled wide yorker which shanaka had as full toss and hit 4🤯😵#INDvsSL
