In match 12 of the Asia Cup 2022, Sri Lanka and Pakistan faced each other ahead of the much-awaited final, scheduled to be played on Sunday (September 11). The two teams have already qualified for the finals and it was good preparation for both of them. The Island nation’s skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to field first.

Pakistan entered the green arena amid a huge roar. Mohammad Rizwan silenced the crowd with his 14-run return to the pavilion. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam followed him in regular intervals and Sri Lanka held the upper hand for most part of the innings. Mohammad Nawaz came up with a decent inning of 26 but it wasn’t enough to take Pakistan to a good score. In the end, The Men in Green succumbed to pressure trying to go all out in almost every ball. The team ended up amassing 121.

Sri Lanka's valiant chase

Sri Lankan batters Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis hoped to chase down the target with ease. But the Men in Green bowlers made it tough for the Island nation batters as they lost three quick wickets. The Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka counter-attacked despite losing three wickets.

The batters tried their best to keep the run rate under check. The pacers toiled hard but couldn't pick wickets in a cluster.  Sri Lanka ended up clinching the match by five wickets against the mighty Pakistan.
