Virat Kohli’s record equalled by Suryakumar Yadav –
Indian T20 Captain Suryakumar Yadav on Tuesday became the equal fastest Indian batter to reach 2000 T20I runs. The 33-year-old equaled the record by former India skipper Virat Kohli who reached the mark in 56 innings.
Pakistani duo Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are the two batters to reach the 2000 run mark in the fastest time. The two are joint top having reached the mark in just 52 innings. Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli occupy the third spot while KL Rahul is in 4th place. Former Australia skipper Aaron Finch meanwhile is now in the 5th place having scored his 2000th run from 62 innings.
During his half-century for India, Suryakumar Yadav also became the fastest man to reach 2000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced. Yadav has played just 1164 balls to reach the mark. The Indian batter already has hit 17 half-centuries and 3 centuries in his international T20I career.
Making his debut in 2021, Suryakumar Yadav announced himself to the world with a six against Jofra Archer. This set in motion what was set to come from the bat of the Indian star. The next few years saw SKY dominate the bowlers across the world to soon become the world's number 1 batter in T20I cricket.
Despite his struggles in the ODI format, Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t let his form dip in the shortest format. On Tuesday the 33-year-old Indian star scored 56 runs off just 36 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Two of those sixes were his trademark flick-shots to fine leg region.
