The Indian team has managed to gain success everywhere, whether it is the overcast conditions in England or the hard and bouncy wickets of Australia. However, the rainbow nation is where the Indians have struggled a lot, not winning a single Test series in South Africa which will remain a dream after the loss in Centurion in the 2-match series. The Indians will still want to come back strong draw the series and show the Proteas why they are a number 1 ranked side in Test matches. However, the disappointing loss in Centurion will still not be easy to forget after they failed in every department in this game. They will want to forget about the match and think about how to defeat this mighty South African side at Cape Town.
We all know how skilled and talented the Indian batters are and how they have scored some big runs in the past, but in the last Test match, these top-class batters were still no match for the South Africa seaming conditions. There have not been a lot of batters that have been as consistent in South Africa as Sachin Tendulkar. The master blaster has scored 1161 runs in his 15 Test matches in South Africa at an average of 46.44 including five hundred.
Allan Donald on Sachin Tendulkar
South Africa legendary pacer Allan Donald who has over 600 international wickets also praised the master in an interview with Press Trust India(PTI) saying “ Only person I know who played us well was Tendulkar, who triggered (had a trigger movement) while batting in South Africa rather than stand on middle-stump. He pressed forward and left the ball amazingly well.” During the interview, Donald also explained how tough the wickets were in South Africa as well and why Tendulkar being successful in those venues was a big deal.
Donald stated “It's not an easy place to combat. We see that daily in South Africa, the ball does nip around more than it does in Australia or England. If your footwork isn't 100 percent then you are in trouble.” This is the perfect knowledge of these pitches given by one of the best South African pacers in the world on how a legendary batter like Tendulkar was able to counter the tough batting conditions. There are a lot of great teachings and advice from Donald that should be taken seriously by players in the future.
