Virat Kohli reaches yet another feat during South Africa vs India 1st Test

Virat Kohli has been the lone warrior for Team India in many games. India lost the 1st Test against South Africa by an innings and 32 runs. In the second innings, Kohli was the highest scorer for the side as the batter played a knock of 76 runs. He was the highest run scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023 with 765 runs scoring 3 centuries in the mega event.

Kohli has been creating and breaking several records over the past decades. In the game against the Rainbow Nation, he achieved two milestones, the first was becoming the 2nd Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to complete 7,000 runs in SENA in international cricket. The other is that he became the first batter in the history of cricket to score 2000+ runs in 7 different calendar years. He has scored: 2186 runs in 2012,2286 runs in 2014, 2595 in  2016, 2818 runs in 2017, 2735 runs in 2018, 2455 runs in 2019, and 2048 runs in 2023.

He has 1786 runs to his name across formats in South Africa in 35 innings, averaging 57.61 with five hundreds and nine fifties. Tendulkar had scored 1724 runs in 51 innings at an average of 35.91 with six hundreds and four fifties. Among the 1786 runs, 833 have come in Tests in 16 innings at an average of 52.06 with two centuries and four fifties.

Kohli's unreal consistency

Kohli has scored 898 runs in 16 innings ODIs, averaging 74.83 with three hundred and five fifties. In T20Is, he has 55 runs from three innings at a strike rate of 125. He is also among the top two run-getters in the Protea soil.

He pulled off a superstitious move during the 1st test when he switched the bail side. Stuart Broad had done the same in the past, and it had resulted in a wicket for his side. After the star batter altered it, a similar situation occurred in the recently ended test. Back in the pavilion, Tony de Zorzi was edging a ball of Jasprit Bumrah.
