The South African team had just warmed up for the ODI World Cup in fine fashion. Aiden Markram led his side to a fine 3-2 ODI series win over Australia. Just when it looked as if everything was going right for the Proteas, there was huge bad news in the offing.

Star bowlers Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala have been ruled out of the entire ODI World Cup. The news was confirmed on Thursday morning by South African coach Rob Walter. The South Africans were quick off the blocks as they named replacements for the two injured players.

South Africa will start their ODI World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka. The match will be played on 7th October at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The South African team also will lose out on Quinton De Kock after the World Cup. The 30-year-old has already announced his retirement from ODI Cricket to play franchise cricket.

Nortje and Magala to miss out on World Cup action due to injuries as replacements are named

Fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala will not travel to India for the ODI Cricket World Cup. The two fast bowlers have sustained injuries with the tournament just two weeks away.

Nortje has gone down with a stress fracture to his back. The fast bowler suffered this injury during the 2nd ODI against Australia. Sisanda Magala, meanwhile is suffering from an injury to his left knee. This injury came during the 3rd ODI against Australia where Magala picked 1 wicket for 45 runs.

Rob Walter the South African coach said “It's hugely disappointing for Anrich and Sisanda to be missing out on the 50-over World Cup. We sympathize in their omission and will continue to provide all the necessary support as they work towards their return to competitive action”

The injured duo Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala will be replaced by Andile Phelukwayo and Lizaad Williams. The two players have been drafted into the South African 15-man squad which will be led by Temba Bavuma.
