After first New Zealand vs India T20I at Wellington got washed out, the rain gods finally showed some mercy as the two teams locked horns in the second T20I. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl first. India began their innings with both left-handed openers, Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan. However, as has been the case in most T20Is this year, it was Suryakumar Yadav who stole the limelight with his breathtaking shots.
India lost their first wicket in the form of Rishabh Pant, who returned to the pavilion after his struggling innings of 6 off 13. Following Pant’s wicket, in-walked the most exciting prospect of T20I in 2022, Suryakumar Yadav. After taking some time early on, ‘SKY’ got into the act quickly and began plundering the bowlers for boundaries.
He further put his versatile strokeplay on display against the Kiwis. The incident took place in the 12th over of the innings bowled by Lockie Ferguson. After driving the first ball of the over through the covers, SKY unleashed his trademark ‘pick-up shot’ sending the ball over the fine leg boundary for a gigantic six. Commentator Harsha Bhogle was also left awestruck by SKY’s shots.

Suryakumar Yadav brought up his second T20I hundred
The star batter brought up his fifty in just 31 balls. After completing his half-century, the 32-year-old went berserk and sent the ball to all parts of the ground putting on a magnificent exhibition of his 360-degree strokeplay.
He completely ripped apart Lockie Ferguson in the 19th over smashing four fours and a six and brought up his second T20I hundred in just 49 balls. SKY became the second Indian batter after Rohit Sharma to have more than one T20I half-century. He further became only the second batter to score two T20I hundreds in a calendar year after Rohit Sharma, who achieved the feat in 2018.
Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 111 off 51 balls clobbering 11 fours and seven sixes in his innings. Courtesy of his stupendous innings, India managed to reach a total of 191/6 after 20 overs.
