The action returned in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League on Sunday with another doubleheader. Earlier yesterday, CSK comprehensively outplayed MI to win the El Clasico matchup of IPL by seven wickets. Sunday's first game saw defending champions Gujarat Titans lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground in Ahmedabad. The second game will feature Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings locking horns in Hyderabad.

The Titans won the toss and elected to bat first. While Gujarat set up a mammoth target of 205 runs for the KKR to chase, Vijay Shankar remained the star with his dazzling knock of 63 runs off just 24 balls. After Ajinkya Rahane's surprising half-century off 19 balls last night, Vijay Shankar continued the trend of unlikely sources yielding quick runs for teams in this year's edition of the lucrative T20 League.

Rinku Singh remained the match-winner, with five consecutive sixes in the final over

Gujarat started off with openers Shubman Gill scoring runs at a decent pace. However, they lost their other opener, Wriddhiman Saha, cheaply at the score of 17 runs off 17 balls, with the team's total being 33. From there, a partnership between Gill and Sai Sudarshan saw the Titans cruise to 100 from 11.4 overs. Finally, Shankar's heroics took them to 204/4 in 20 overs.

For KKR, mystery spinner and T20 specialist Sunil Narine remained the pick of the bowlers returning with a three-wicket haul from his four overs, conceding just 33 runs. Last game's debutant and impact star, Suyash Sharma, picked up the fourth for KKR, conceding 35 in his four overs.

In reply, KKR started off shakily, losing two for just 28 runs on the board. But a partnership between Venkatesh Iyer (83 off 40) and skipper Nitish Rana (45 off 29) steadied KKR's innings as they were 154/4 inside 16 overs. However, Rashid Khan's hattrick in the 17th over changed the game. However, with 28 required from the final over, Rinku Singh hit five consecutive sixes to take KKR home.

Next, in the IPL 2023, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will host the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. While RCB will go into the game against the backdrop of a humiliating defeat to KKR by 81 runs, LSG are riding high after outplaying Hyderabad in their own backyard.
