The Asia Cup 2023 tournament is now in its Super Four stage. The first game of this phase of the tournament saw Pakistan register an easy win against Bangladesh. The hosts beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets at Lahore on Wednesday. With this win the men in green become early favorites to reach the finals.

Pakistan will next face India in the crucial game on Sunday at Colombo in a blockbuster encounter. The last game between the two teams on 2nd September saw the game being called off due to rain. The Indian team had struggled to face the Pakistani pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.

Indian opener Shubman Gill came back to form in the game against Nepal. Gill who turned 24 on Friday will be looking to play a key role with the bat during the game on Sunday. Ahead of the game against Pakistan, Shubman Gill was speaking to the media before the game on Sunday.

Shubman Gill’s honest assessment

Shubman Gill said “When you are playing at this level, you play left-armer pacers previously at some point of your career. We do not play Pakistan that much as compared to the other sides. They have a quality bowling attack. When you do not face such a bowling attack frequently and are not used to it, it makes a difference”

The right-handed batter also went on to speak on the approach he likes to take in power-play overs. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill led India to an easy ten-wicket win over Nepal last Monday. The youngster scored his 7th ODI fifty as he stayed not out on 67 off 62 balls with 8 fours and a six.

Gill while speaking to the media said "I am someone who likes to play along the ground in the powerplay. Rohit takes on bowlers aerially. This combination works well for us. How different we are as players makes it difficult for bowlers to contain us”

Shubman Gill also had words of praise for opposition skipper Babar Azam and his batting talents. The Indian opener said “Yes, definitely we follow him. When a player is doing well. Everyone watches him to find out why they are doing so good, what their specialty. The same thing goes for Babar. He is a world-class player and we all do admire him”

Finally speaking about the game on Sunday and the game plan, Gill said “Our plans will be the same, to give a solid foundation and then dominate. In that last game against Pakistan, our top order did not do well. But still, we made around 260 and looked set to make 310-320 runs at some point at such a wicket. These are good signs."
