India is playing in the five-match T20I home series against South Africa. The second match of this series has been played at Cuttack’s Barabati stadium. The hosts faced another defeat against Bavuma’s men in the second T20I. Before that, South Africa easily outplayed the Indian team and won by seven wickets in the first T20I.

Although, the senior Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has come up with a different perspective after the loss against the visitors. He said that India is aiming at the  T20 World Cup 2022 over the bilateral encounters in the shortest format of the game. Iyer has also talked about the current mindset of Indian team management.

We have the T20 world cup in our focus – Iyer

“Our main aim is obviously the world cup, so we have to see to it that we plan towards it. So, we have that sort of mindset where we are completely free not thinking about anything else. These are the actual games where we can practice what we were lacking in the past. That’s what we keep discussing in the team meeting as well. No matter what happens, whatever plans we discuss in the team meeting, we have to execute those. Even if we fail, we will learn from that and grow as a player and grow as a team. So that’s more important till we reach Australia,” Iyer was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference after the second T20I.

“We have made this plan that we will keep going no matter what happens. Even if we keep losing wickets, it’s our game plan and in the future too, we will go with the same mindset. We will back ourselves and back our instincts,” He added later.

Expressing his opinion while talking about the pitch conditions, the 27-year-old said: “I feel if something we could have done on this wicket is playing until 11 to 15 overs.”

Speaking of the game, India posted a total of 148 runs for the loss of six wickets in the first innings with the help of a decent knock of 40 runs from Shreyas Iyer. The target was easily chased by the visitors with the heroics of Heinrich Klassen who smashed a match-winning knock of 81 runs and took his team home with a six-wicket win.
