In a fresh controversy that has rocked Indian Badminton. star player Lakshya Sen, who was recently bestowed with an Arjuna Award for his path-breaking performances in 2022, has come under the scanner due to age fraud. This has come as a major blow for the star shuttler.

Sen has been slapped with a case after a person who runs an academy in the city has put the allegation of age fraud on the star shuttler. An FIR has been filed against Sen who won a gold medal for India at the Commonwealth Games this year. In the FIR, the name of the coach, from his badminton academy has also been mentioned.

Alongside Sen and his coach Vimal Kumar, His father Dhirendra Sen, mother Nirmala Sem and brother Chirag Sen have been named by the police in the FIR. The complaint was filed by Nagraja MG who alleged that Sen was born in 1998 against what was mentioned in the records, which had stated his year of birth to be 2001.

Coach Kumar has refuted the allegations on the age fraud

Nagraja also claimed that Kumar, who is a coach at the Padukone Academy, along with Sen’s parents, faked a birth certificate in 2010 to allow the ace badminton player to play in tournaments that had an age bar.

Coach Kumar has however rejected the allegations. “I don’t even know the allegations made by the complainant. I have no role in this whatsoever. Lakshya came to the academy and I trained him from 2010, just like any other child”, He said to the Indian Express.

“I had heard that a parent was levelling allegations to malign the image of the academy and me. But it did not bother us in any way.” He added when he was asked if he was aware of the complaint.

“An FIR has been registered based on the court directions. We will collect all the documents from the complainant and will inquire further. It is too early to comment.” Deputy commissioner of police R Srinivas Gowda said.
