Pakistan veteran batter Shoaib Malik's innings went in vain as three times champion Jaffna Kings were eliminated from Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 after getting beaten by B-Love Kandy by 61 runs. Malik was the highest scorer from his side, as he scored 31 (23) while chasing the target of 189 runs. Kandy’s skipper bowled an outstanding spell and got the Player of the Match award for his 6/9 in 3.2 overs.
At the start of the play, the Thisara Perera-led side won the toss and opted to field first, Pakistan’s star batter Mohammad Haris played an outstanding knock of 79 (49) along with four towering sixes. Haris was accompanied by Dinesh Chandimal as he played a fiery knock of 41 (24) with six boundaries. This partnership was crucial as Kandy’s opener Fakhar Zaman was bowled out in the very first over. Eventually, with the help of Haris and Chandimal's innings, the Kandy-based side reached 188/8 in 20 overs.
Shoaib Malik's fiery knock was not enough for Jaffna Kings in LPL 2023-
In the chase, the defending champions didn’t start well as Charith Asalanka was dismissed in the second over of the innings. After that, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Chris Lynn tried to stabilize the innings but were dismissed in a close span. The 41-year-old Shoaib Malik tried his best to score quick runs and take the asking rate under control but was dismissed in the 17th over.
The opposition side's star leg spinner, Hasaranga, who was in the news because of his sudden Test cricket retirement, bowled one of the best spells of LPL history as he dismissed six players in 20 balls. Interestingly, Hasaranga's spell and Haris' innings created history because the Jaffna Kings side has so far won each edition of the LPL, starting from 2020.
There have been three editions of Sri Lanka’s cash-rich league, and Jaffna-based sides have won each one, but this time LPL will get its new winner, while It is pertinent to mention that for the ticket to the finals, B Love Kandy will take on Galle Titans in Qualifier 2 as Dambulla Aura is in the finals of the 4th edition of the LPL, Aura reached the finals after beating Titans in Qualifier 1 by six wickets with 22 balls remaining as they were chasing the target of 147 runs.
Here are the fans reaction as Shoaib Malik's innings go in vain after Jaffna Kings get knocked out of LPL 2023-

Hasaranga has both better average and SR in LPL than Babri Azam ....and both have 200+ runs ...one is the captain too and his team is winning too

Shame taht Shoaib bhai is not in Pak national side. Babar is playing dirty politics, he sidelined all heroes for his friends. SHAME ON BABAR.
