West Indies cricket fans saw some amazing cricket being played in Sydney on Monday. The second T20 between West Indian Women and Australian Women went down to the wire. Hayley Matthews held her own as she led her team to a memorable seven-wicket win.

The West Indian team is touring Australia for a three-match T20 and ODI series. Australia had taken a 1-0 lead after winning the 1st game on Sunday. The home team won the game by 8 wickets in Sydney.

Hayley Matthews the West Indian skipper won the toss and chose to bowl first. Australia had won the game while chasing. A win for the West Indian side has kept them alive in the series. The final match will be played on Thursday in Brisbane.

Captain’s knock by Hayley Matthews secures West Indies close win –

Chasing 213 to win, West Indies had their skipper to thank for the win, Hayley Matthews scored 132 runs from just 64 deliveries. The right-handed batter hit 20 fours and five huge sixes in her knock.

Matthews was supported well by Stefanie Taylor who hit 59 runs with 11 fours in her 41-ball knock. The two added 174 runs for the 2nd wicket in just 82 balls as they took the game away from Australia. West Indies won the game with just one ball to spare and seven wickets in hand.

None of the bowlers were spared as the 25-year-old seemed to be in the proper zone today. Matthews was severe on the Australian spinners before losing her wicket to Jess Jonassen. The Australian players and the crowd stood up on their feet to give the West Indies skipper a warm ovation.

Hayley Matthews played a key role during the Mumbai Indians title triumph this year. The 25-year-old’s exploits with the bat helped Harmanpreet Kaur and her side win their maiden Women’s IPL title. The West Indian was lauded for her efforts and won new fans across India.

Ellyse Perry led the Australian batting charge with 70 runs off 46 balls. The 32-year-old hit 5 fours and 4 sixes in her knock. Phoebe Litchfield scored 52 runs from 19 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes. The pair helped Australia post an impressive 212 from their 20 overs.
