The star Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has roared once again with his double hundred for Northamptonshire in England’s One–Day Cup. Although he had a forgettable Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign, after this innings, he silenced his critics. Shaw was dismissed for 244 runs, along with 24 fours and eight sixes in 153 balls, He also broke many records during his innings, including the tournament's highest score. 

The Mumbai-born cricketer scored a double hundred in the One Day Cup tournament when Northamptonshire clashed against Somerset at the County Ground in Northampton. It was his third match for the side, he didn’t score much in his first two outings, but in the third game, he converted this opportunity into a successful stint.  

However, Prithvi Shaw's first hundred came in 81 balls, which was also his maiden for Northamptonshire. After scoring his first hundred, he continued the onslaught and brought up his second hundred in 129 deliveries to score the double. After the Shaw innings, Northamptonshire managed to put up a score of 415/8 in 50 overs, which was their second-highest in the One Day Cup. 

Prithvi Shaw has two double tons in List A 50-over format games 

Interestingly, the 244-run knock was not Shaw's first double hundred in List A cricket; his previous came in the Vijay Hazare Trophy when he played for Mumbai in 2020-21. In India's one-day tournament, his 227 runs were the highest of the tournament. The 23-year-old surpassed England’s batter Ollie Robinson’s total of 206 runs for Kent, which was the highest individual score in the County One Day Cup. 

The opening batter becomes only the second Indian after Rohit Sharma to smash two double centuries in a 50-over tournaments. The Indian skipper has three double centuries in the 50-over game. Former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly's 183-run score was the highest by any Indian batter in England before Shaw's blistering knock i the 50-over format.
