Pakistan and South Africa locked horns against each other in Match 41st of the 20-20 World Cup. The game held tremendous importance for both sides as the winner of the match would’ve sealed a spot in the semi-finals. Bangladesh Captain Shakib-al-Hasan won the toss and elected to bat first. The Bangla Tigers could only manage to score 127/8 after their allotted 20 overs.
Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan walked out to give a good start to their side. Both batters batted with some caution and had a conservative approach against the new ball. Rizwan survived an early blow as he was dropped by the wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan on the bowling of Taskin Ahmed.
After surviving, Rizwan tried to take the attack on the Bangladesh bowling by scoring some quick boundaries. However, Babar was seen struggling at the other end as he failed to score at even run-a-ball. The Pakistan captain kept looking for singles as Rizwan found boundaries on regular occasions.
Pakistan didn’t have a run rate of even 6 despite not losing any wickets till the 11th over. Babar’s struggle continued as he finished the powerplay on 9 off 15 balls. He scored the second boundary of his innings on the 30th ball of the innings to take his score to 23 off 30 balls.
Azam’s struggle was ended as he was dismissed by Nasum Ahmed in the 11th over getting caught at backward point. The Pakistan captain was under huge pressure coming into the game as he had failed to reach the double-figure mark in the first four innings of the tournament. The 28-year-old has been heavily criticised for a long time for his low strike rate in T20 internationals.
Babar’s innings today further confirmed that his struggles are far from over which is a worrying sign for Pakistan heading into the semi-finals of the world cup. Twitter was abuzz after Babar’s struggling knock today. Here are some of the Tweets on Babar’s slow innings against Bangladesh:
Despite Babar Azam's valiant effort for Bangladesh Pakistan qualify for the Semi's

Its time for babar to accept that he can not play as an opener in T20. #babarazam #PAKvsBAN

There is no justification for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to open now.

Their illegal gay marriage needs to be broken at any cost.
The middle order is not the problem as much as our opening pair of @iMRizwanPak and @babarazam258 is. They play 10 overs scoring 50 runs and expect middle order to score 120 in next 10. Babar lacks captaincy skills. Both are players of ODI not t20#PakistanCricket #PAKvsBAN

Presently, two of the most selfish persons in the world are from Pakistan. One is #Babar_Azam Other is #Rizwan

@Saqlain_Mushtaq @iramizraja @babarazam258 Most intentless, selfish run chase by Baber & Rizwan. Unbelievable! They have put the team under tremendous pressure.
