A swarm of fans attacked Prithvi Shaw's friend's vehicle after the cricketer allegedly refused them selfies at a five-star hotel in Mumbai. According to reports, Shaw was not present inside the vehicle during the incident, and a police complaint has been filed against the accused, Sana Gill and Shobit Thakur.

On Wednesday, February 15, the incident allegedly occurred at the Mansion Club of the Sahara Star Hotel in Mumbai. According to the report, the accused approached the cricketer inside the hotel and asked for a selfie, to which the cricketer agreed. However, when asked a second time by the accusers, he declined, and the manager asked them to leave the premises.

The accused, enraged by the outcome of the events, waited outside the hotel for him and his friend to leave. They followed a friend's car, assuming the cricketer would be with him as well and eventually came to a halt near a petrol pump. The accused then used a baseball bat to smash the car's windows and hit Shaw's friend. He was even subject to 50,000 in blackmail by the accused.

According to sources, Shaw left the hotel in a different car, keeping him safe from the assault. The cricketer's friend immediately reported to Oshiwara Police Station where his complaint was filed following a statement.

According to the police, who are currently investigating the incident, Sana Gill and Shobit Thakur have been charged under sections 384,143, 148,149, 427,504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

After more than 18 months, the opening batter was finally called up by India for the T20I series against New Zealand. His selection came on the back of his impressive form in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy, where he also slammed the highest score by a Mumbai batter with a splendid 379 against Assam.

However, Shaw did not get to play a game as Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, who scored a century in the series, were Men in Blue's go-to opening batter options.
