The defending champions, Gujarat Titans, have confirmed their qualification in the playoffs of IPL 2023 after they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs in match number 62 of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While on the other hand, SRH became the second team after Delhi Capitals to get eliminated from the playoffs race. Batting first, GT posted a total of 188 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, powered by the maiden IPL century by Shubman Gill. In reply, SRH could only 154 runs by losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs

GT didn’t had a great start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent Wriddhiman Saha back to pavilion for a duck in the very first over of the match. After that, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan took charge of the innings further where Gill played with an aggressive intent while Sudharsan played an anchor role focusing on singles and doubles more. The duo put up a partnership of 147 runs for the second and put GT in a commendable position to go past 200 runs.

Sudharsan got out after scoring 47 runs off 36 balls hitting six fours and a maximum. After his wicket, GT lost momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Gill scoring runs from the other end. The 23-year-old finally completed his maiden IPL century in the second ball of the 19th over after 56 deliveries. He got out in the first balls of the 20th over after scoring 101 runs off 58 balls hitting 13 and a six.

After Gill's departure, GT completely collapsed in the final over as Bhuvneshwar struck in the very next ball sending Rashid Khan back to the pavilion for a golden duck. In the next ball, Noor Ahmad got run out as SRH got a team hat trick. A delivery later, Bhuvneshwar struck again and scalped his fifth wicket of the match as GT could only score 2 runs in the final over and ended up losing 4 wickets. Bhuvneshwar finished with the figures of 5/30 in his four overs. While Marco Jansen, T. Natarajan and Fazalhaq Farooqi shared a wicket each.

Heinrich Klaasen kept the hopes alive for SRH after early wickets

Chasing the winning total, SRH had a disastrous start as they lost both their openers within two overs. Mohammed Shami sent Anmolpreet Singh back to the pavilion for 5 runs in the fifth ball of the first over. In the next over, Yash Dayal struck for GT as he dismissed Abhishek Sharma for 5 runs. SRH kept losing wickets at regular intervals and the score was reduced to 59 for 7 in nine overs.

After that, Heinrich Klaasen and Bhuvmeshwar Kumar added 68 runs for the eighth wicket. Klaasen played a fighting knock and tried hard to take his team down the line but got out in final ball of the 17th over after scoring 64 runs off 44 balls with four fours and three sixes. At last, SRH fell short of 34 runs from GT’s total. For GT, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma took 4-4 wickets each, while Yash Dayal put 1 in his bag.
