Delhi Capitals’ young batter Prithvi Shaw finally looked in good touch after consecutive failures as he scored his first half-century of IPL 2023 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match number 64 of the season at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. Batting first, DC posted a total of 213 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Before this game, Prithvi Shaw appeared in six matches in the ongoing season where he could score only 47 runs at an underwhelming average of just 7.83. After that, he was dropped from the playing XI due to his poor form. However, DC are already out of the playoffs race and they decided to give Shaw a chance in the playing XI again for the remaining couple of games

This time, the 23-year-old capitalised on the given opportunity and scored a fine half-century when DC were asked to bat first by PBKS. Shaw and the skipper David Warner gave a flying start to DC as they both put up an opening partnership of 94 runs in 10.4 overs. Warner got out after scoring 46 runs off 31 balls with five fours and two sixes. After that, Shaw added another 54 runs for the second wicket with Rilee Rossouw. He got out after scoring 54 runs off 38 balls hitting seven fours and a six.

While Rossouw remained unbeaten on 82 runs off 37 balls scoring six fours and six sixes, Phil Salt accompanied him and added the finishing touches by scoring 26 runs off 14 balls with two fours and two sixes. They both put up a unbeaten partnership of 65 runs for the third wicket as DC go past 210 runs in their 20 overs. For PBKS, Sam Curran was the only wicket-taker as he scalped 2 wickets by conceding 36 runs in his four overs.

PBKS now need 214 runs to register their seventh win of the season. It is an important game for the home team in order to make their chances more strong for qualifying for playoffs of the ongoing season. They currently stand in the eighth position after winning six of the 12 games played so far.
