Indian captain, Rohit Sharma made a fantastic comeback in the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Sharma played an outstanding knock of 83 runs in just 67 balls, including 9 fours and 3 sixes. He made those runs at a brilliant strike rate of 123.88. On a good batting track complimented with a fast outfield, the Indian captain produced a top knock but missed out on a much-deserved century.
Rohit Sharma didn’t take a lot of time before unleashing himself. He began his innings with a four on his 5th ball. He then smashed two consecutive boundaries in the first two balls of the third over, making his intentions pretty clear.
Shubman Gill, on the other hand, also looked flawless as the duo stitched a fifty-run partnership in just 50-run partnership inside the first seven overs. Rohit Sharma was the aggressor of the two.
In the 7th over, he tore apart Rajitha by smashing him two sixes and a four and it looked like big innings from the Indian captain was on the cards. He continued his fireworks by scoring boundaries at regular intervals and raced away to his 47th fifty in ODI cricket in just 41 balls.
Both the batters were in no mood to get out as the duo formed a 100-run association in 15 overs without much fuzz. Gill, however, got trapped out leg-before in the 20th over after making a well-made 70 off 60 balls.
Rohit Sharma was looking good, at the other end, and was on course to score a hundred. However, once again, he got out by playing a loose shot only to leave the fans frustrated.
His feet didn’t move and while trying to guide the ball to the third man got an inside edge and the ball clattered into the off-stump. Sharma, eventually, got out after playing a solid knock. The skipper was, understandably, disappointed after getting out.
He would have easily reached a hundred but now have to wait a bit time for that. Nevertheless, the fans were pretty happy with his performance in the first ODI. Here’s a look at some of the reactions from the fans on the same:
