Yashasvi Jaiswal made a mockery of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers with his blistering 47-ball 98* runs, which helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) annihilate the hosts by nine wickets on Thursday, May 11. The 21-year-old slammed the fastest half-century in Indian Premier League (IPL) history in just 13 balls and displayed a magnificent exhibition at Eden Gardens to chase down a 150-run target in 13.1 overs.
Jaiswal has been one of the most consistent batter for Royals this season and is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 575 runs. Earlier, he hit a century (124 off 62) against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 42nd match and has four half-centuries to his name this season. The young gun is leading the RR batting line-up with a solid powerplay which is laying the foundation for their innings.
Meanwhile, in the midst of his phenomenal run of form this season, the left-hander has credited some of the legends of the game like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, and Royals skipper Sanju Samson. Speaking at the RR vs KKR post-match press conference, Jaiswal said, "I try to learn from experienced players like Dhoni sir, Virat Bhaiya, Rohit Bhaiya, Jos Bhai, Sanju Bhai".
Jaiswal wants to represent India in the upcoming ODI World Cup
Jaiswal fell short of a well-deserved century by just 2 runs, but his explosive knock has knocked on the doors of Team India selectors ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year.
The youngster became emotional while speaking to the media, expressing his desire to represent India in the 50-over World Cup. The RR opener said he wants to bat at number three for India in the marquee event and hopes Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will consider him.
"I want to play at 3 in ODI World Cup which is happening in India. This is my dream, I hope Rohit Bhaiya considers me,” he said.
“It was a nice feeling today. It is not like everything I wanted happens, I prepare well and I trust in myself. I know the results will come. The winning shot was a great feeling, I wanted to finish the game, and winning the game has been my motto,” Jaiswal added.
Here's how fans reacted to Jaiswal's statement:
